January 1981: Joined Parsons & Gilbert (forerunner of Smith & Gilbert Pty Ltd) in partnership with Russell Gilbert

Rob’s main area of expertise is in all areas of taxation, accounting & business advising.

Rob has been married to Moira since January 1980 and they have 3 sons - Iain (27), Alister (24) & Andrew (20) and have lived in their current property in Bacchus Marsh since February 1983.

Russell Gilbert Director Russell qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1973 and was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants as a Fellow in 1983.

Russell has practiced as a tax agent and accountant for small businesses since 1968 and has gained experience working in Canada where he was invited to join the partnership. After returning to Australia, Russell specialized in Rural Accountancy with the firm C P Bird in Western Australia.

In 1978 Russell entered into a partnership with David Parsons until David retired in 1980 and the partnership of Smith & Gilbert was then formed.

Russell has been an appointed Financial Planner since 1989 and has specialized in Self Managed Super Funds for over 15 years.

Russell has always been pro-active in the community being Treasurer of numerous organizations including Chamber of Commerce, Business at Bacchus Marsh, Guides, Scouts and President of School Council. He was President of Bacchus Marsh Rotary Club for 2 years and has been a serving Rotarian for 22 years. Russell participates yearly in enduring 900 km bike rides to raise much needed funds for Ovarian Cancer Research and the Children’s Hospital.

Russell is a long standing member of the Geelong Football Club and enjoys traveling overseas to experience the culture of other nations.

Russell has a daughter Claire, who is a visual merchandise displayer. His life partner is Geoff Camm who is a retired teacher and has been involved in many local organizations – President of Bacchus Marsh Agricultural Show Society and Bacchus Marsh Primary School Council.
